Hakla’s plea to CM

POONCH, Dec 9: Prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual of the State, Shamsher Hakla Poonchi today appealed the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to introduce a bill in the coming State Legislative Assembly Session of 2018 for reservation of Assembly segments for Gujjar and Bakerwal community in the State.
Hakla in a statement here, today said the political reservation was compulsory for the Gujjars and Bakerwals of the State who have been already given Scheduled Tribe status by Government of India in the year 1991.
Recognizing their backwardness of Gujjar Bakerwal of  the State by Government of India granted Scheduled Tribe status to Gujjars and Bakerwals under ordinance No. 03 of 1991 under Article 342 of Constitution of India on April 19, 1991 so far as  their participation in the State politics is concerned under Scheduled Tribe status norms, there should have been reservation of Assembly segment for Gujjars and Bakerwals in the  State  and the Lok Sabha Constituencies but it did not happen any where in the State thereby State Government has done a great in justice to Gujjar Bakerwal community.
Further there are 31 State Assembly segments and 2  Lok Sabha segments which are inhabited by Gujjars and Bakerwals but due to indifferent attitude of the J&K State Government the Gujjar and Bakerwal community stands deprived of its political rights.
