JAMMU, Feb 23: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi, a prominent Gujjar leader today said that many years back the Government had opened the mobile schools for the children of Gujjar and Bakerwals which had to stay at those places where the Gujjar-Bakerwal people reside during the six months of Summer so that their children could get proper education and during Winter season these mobile schools had to move to the plains where Gujjars and Bakerwals reside during that season.
In a statement issued here, he said unfortunately nowadays many mobile schools don’t move with these Tribes during Summer season because of which the education of the Gujjar and Bakerwal children has suffered. Many mobile schools have been converted to stationary schools by J&K Government and only few mobile schools are now left.
He said this has been one of the main causes that the people belonging to these communities are still far behind and backward in the field of education as the previous Governments of J&K had failed to ensure the functioning of these schools.
In an appeal to Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha, Shamsher Hakla demanded framing of strong policy for ensuring the proper functioning of mobile schools in J&K.
