Hakla appeals PM for political reservation to Gujjars

POONCH, Mar 10: Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi the prominent Gujjar leader and an intellectual today appealed the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on behalf 34 lakh Gujjars and Bakerwals of the State to make amendment in the Constitution of J&K for political reservation to Gujjars and Bakerwals of the State.
In a statement issued here, today he said the amendment should be made on the pattern of 77th amendment order of 2019 dated February 28, 2019 passed by J&K Cabinet for reservation in promotions to SC/ST Government employees of the State before the Assembly and Lok Sabha election for reservation of Assembly Segments for Gujjar-Bakarwal Schedule Tribe(ST) Community in the State who have been already given Scheduled Tribe status by Government of India in the year 1991.
Hakla said the Gujjar Bakarwal community was granted ST status by the Government of India 28 years ago but the State Government had failed to grant them political reservation.
“So far as their participation in the State politics and administrative setup is concerned under Scheduled Tribe status norms, there should have been reservation of Assembly segment for Gujjars and Bakarwals in the State and the Lok Sabha Constituency but it did not happen any where in the State of J&K”, he said, adding by this State Government has done a great in justice to Gujjar-Bakarwal community this way.
