JAMMU, June 2: Senior BJP leader and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Councillor, Gurmeet Kour Randhawa of Ward number 69 here today inaugurated the renovated statue of Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia and renovated Babbar Chowk (named after Major I.S Babbar) and put the renovated Park to public use in Sector G of Sainik Colony.
These renovations were done at an approximate cost of Rs. 7.5 lakh.
It is pertinent to mention here that Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia was martyred in Kargil War while Major Babbar laid down his life while destroying hideout of militants in Assam in 2003.
The improvement of Park has been done by installing open gymnasium, swings and slides for children along with many other facilities while demand for such facilities at other parks in the Ward has also been taken up by Randhawa with JMC.
Speaking on the occasion Gurmeet Randhawa said that policy of J&K Government in renaming roads, schools, colleges etc after martyrs or eminent personalities is a positive move.
She said that decision of J&K Government to replace embossed ‘Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’ with ‘the National Emblem’ from the police medals for gallantry and meritorious service is beginning of a new era.
J.R Sharma, Karan Singh Jamwal, Ravinder Singh, Delly Pathania, Mohinder Kour, Ram Kesh Sharma, Sanjay Sharma and Jatinder Singh were also present on the occasion.
