Gupkar Alliance has little common for welfare of people: Prof Gupta

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 16: The former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, terming the Gupkar Alliance, as a congregation of heterogeneous characters having little common for the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir who were getting impatient without cosy chairs of power. Their congregation like that of Muslim United Front (MUF) of 1986 which had emerged on the political scene of Kashmir Valley and had started their activities with various kinds of threats by encouraging violence and hartals. During past over three decades, this congregation had brought sufferings and destruction in the Valley to the extent that over five lacs natives and nationalists were forced out to become refugees in their own country.
Prof. Gupta warned that the new congregation of heterogeneous characters couldn’t be different much to that of the erstwhile MUF and said that this type of so called alliance is not the first of its kind.
He also recalled that in the last Lok Sabha elections, these elements including that of the Congress had joined hands to defeat the BJP but the results were quite significant. The BJP had won both the Lok Sabha seats of Jammu with record margin including that of Doda, Udhampur and Kathua by Dr. Jitendra Singh. The adversaries had to face a situation that they looked even losing their surety deposits.
Prof. Gupta also recalled that while in Jammu areas the nationalists voted with a great vigour and enthusiasm to defeat the congregation of heterogeneous gang up of politicians devoid of any political ideology and program for the welfare of the people.
He also pointed out that the NC supported by all the elements of the Gupkar Alliance, but its leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah couldn’t muster even 8% votes of the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat and so was the ridiculous position of other candidates of the party and the plight of former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti was all the more ridiculous and was nearing to the forfeiture of surety deposit of her party, which is now withering away but for the poor leadership and the utterances of the party chief. The PDP, he recalled was organised by Late Mufti Mohammed Syed with the objective of eradicating the one family rule of the NC. It looks strange that the daughter of founder of the PDP, is now sailing in the company of same N C to which the PDP was organised to liberate the Kashmir people from the clutches of one family monopoly in the Valley.
Lashing out at the Congress , Prof. Gupta said, though the Congress is a national rival party which should work for unity and integrity of the country, has opted to be in the company of those who wanted to get back the much controversial Article 370 and 35A which were scrapped by the Parliament under the stewardship of Narendra Modi.
