Sir,
A new culture of celebrating marriage functions has been creeping into our society. It is firing of joy or celebration shots from guns. This happens when “Baratis’ led by the VVIP of the occasion, the bridegroom arrives at the bride’s place. Giving a feeling of a false victory over some. “subjugated” people, though both the sides become relatives, dances, firecrackers and other forms of celebrations in vogue seem to some as old fashioned. They now resort to firing of shots indiscriminately in the air which in most of the cases proves fatal. In a moment’s time, joys, celebrations turn into mouring, cries and wailing as some one’s dear gets killed, in most of the cases, the children.
Since such “fashions” are endemic in nature, recently a cricket star of the country while taking the Barat, witnessed gun shot firing in the air which, he, as a known figure should have not allowed. Such methods of celebrations are nothing but criminal acts whereby innocents’ lives get endangered.
Though there are sufficient laws to tackle creation of nuisance, acts jeopardising the life and property, rowdyism, etc, but a special law needs to be framed to specially bring such insane acts within the purview of causing death wilfully, or culpable homicide, intentions to cause injury and death in respect of celebrations of marriages, election victories, and other similar occasions.
At the same time, there should be community awareness itself against such acts.
Yours etc…..
