SRINAGAR, Sept 30: A peaceful march by Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha from Anantnag to Civil Secretariat was foiled by police.
The slogan shouting Gujjars were stopped by Police near the Deputy Commissioner’s office. As the police did not allow them to move further, a memorandum was sent to the Governor through Dy Commissioner.
Earlier, a number of Gujjars, including prominent members of the community from South Kashmir, assembled at Town Hall, Anantnag.
Speakers addressed the gathering and rued the inability of State Government in providing even basic amenities to the community. They also alleged that the elected MLAs and MLCs to whom the Gujjar community supported and played a major role in their success during elections, were also not taking care of them.
Ishfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, State president of Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha,  while addressing the gathering,  emphasized that his organization has raised four points which include political reservation in Legislative Assembly, Council and the Parliament, creation of Ministry of Tribal Affair in J&K, implementation of tribal sub-plan,  proportionate to population and middle pass recruitment in belt forces.
He lamented that even the Gujjar representatives in J&K were doing nothing for their community and not concentrating towards any of the issue.
