JAMMU, Aug 27: Feeling discrimination in the recruitments conducted by Public Service Commission (PSC), Service Selection Board (SSB) and other agencies, the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today demanded sub-categorization of Scheduled Tribe quota for equitable development of all the tribes.
In a programm organized by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation under the chairmanship of noted Tribal Scholar Dr Javaid Rahi, the community members pleaded that Gujjars and Bakerwals should be granted separate share of 10 per cent reservation under ST category. They said that only such allocation can provide more equitable distribution of quota benefits among the tribes.
Dr Javaid Rahi in his address said that Gujjars and Bakerwal tribal candidates get only 20 per cent share in jobs and the rest of the benefits goes in favour of other ST groups. This is a sought of discrimination within the category, which needs to be addressed on priority, he added.
The speakers castigated PSC, SSB and other recruitment agencies for its unfair and bias approach in selections under Scheduled Tribe category especially towards Gujjars and Bakerwals tribe candidates. They appealed their community to unite for a joint struggle against casual approach by the commission against their tribe candidates.
They cautioned the PSC to desist from such bias in selections as it has caused a strong resentment among the Jammu youth which could explode anytime and take an ugly turn.
The speakers included Mohammad Anwar, Ali Mohammad Chowdahry, Choudhary Din Mohammad, Khadam Hussain Tedwa, Rana Mir Mohammad Gujjar, Mohd Rizwan, etc.
