JAMMU, Oct 24: A delegation of Gujjars met with members of the erstwhile royal family of the State, Dr Karan Singh (MP), his son Vikramaditya Singh (ex MLC) and grandson Ranvijay Singh to discuss various issue of the State, especially difficulties being faced by the Gujjar Bakerwal community of the State.
The delegation explained that the Gujjar community was granted ST reservation in 1993-94 but even after a gap of more than 25 years, there was no political reservation for them. Further, they added, land was given by Maharaja to Gujjars and they have been staying there for more than 100 years but now different Government departments were harassing to vacate the land. Even as the Gujjar community always remains on move, no rehabilitation policy has been approved for them till date, the delegation rued.
Dr Karan Singh along with his son and grand son passionately listened to the delegation and assured full support to the community. Maintaining that the erstwhile royal family always believe in secularism and has taken all the community together for the development of State, he assured that this would be followed by Vikramaditya Singh.
