JAMMU, Dec 13: With the purpose to enrich the teaching-learning process, the MIER College of Education organized two guest lectures on the theme “Blended Learning” and “Theories of Learning.” The resource persons were Prof. Amit Kauts, Dean and Head, Department of Education, GNDU, Amritsar and Dr. Deepa Sikand, Associate Professor, Dept. of Education, GNDU, Amritsar.
The HoDs of different departments of MIER College, along with the faculty and students of UG and PG Departments attended the guest lectures. Dr. Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College and Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HoD UG Department welcomed the resource persons.
Speaking on the topic “Blended Learning,” Prof. Amit Kauts explained the nuances of teaching-learning process and emphasized that a teacher needs to inculcate the skills and attitudes among students in addition to providing knowledge. He said Blended learning is an approach to education that combines online educational resources and opportunities with tradition classroom methods.
Prof Kauts comprehensively deliberated on different models of blended learning namely Rotation Model, Flex Model, Self-blend Model and Enriched Virtual Model. He shared number of on-line resources which could be used by teachers in their day-to-day teaching such as Swayam, Swayam Prabha, National Digital Library, and Creative Commons. Prof Kauts also talked at length on “Flipped Classroom” as one of the approaches of Blended Learning and provided ample examples.
