This has reference to the news item ‘Assembly discusses resolution on GST’ DE July 5. Though, the Government has passed resolution on GST, it seems that the State legislators were not much interested in seeking a solution to GST implementation in the State. Rather, they wished the problem to linger on for their petty political interests. Had opposition been sincere in debating the issue, it would not have created unnecessary ruckus. The business community is in a dilemma whether to go with GST or not. The Jammu based business community is keen to see GST implemented without further delay, their counter parts in the Valley are quite hesistant fearing the State would lose fiscal autonomy. The legislators should have debated the issue threadbare and assured the business community of its positive features, instead of indulging in verbal duels and ruckus.
The implementation of GST in the State is going to further the interests of business community and consumers alike. The consumers will be saved from double taxation. Keeping the interests of consumers in view, it is requested to our elected representatives not to make it a political issue.
