SRINAGAR, June 30: Former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today cautioned that any hasty decision on the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) could prove last nail in the coffin of Article 370 eroded by both the opposition National Conference (NC) and ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
Saying that GST implementation would be a big blow to both the consumers and traders in Jammu & Kashmir, Vakil said J&K has its own tax laws which can be amended suitably to safeguard both the commercial interests of the consumers and traders and as well as the Article 370 which has been almost reduced to a human skeleton.
Accusing NC of invoking land grants bill and implementing e-stamping system and PDP of invoking Women’s Reservation Bill just to erode article 370 in the past, Vakil said both the NC and PDP leaders are playing hide and seek policy for implementing GST in the form it has been implemented in other States of the country, Vakil advised both the PDP and NC to stop selling dreams to facilitate the implementation of GST at the instance of Modi Government in Delhi and warned that any hasty decisions would deepen the growing alienation of the people instead of restoring the faith of people in the mainstream politics.
