Growing intolerance scuttling development in State: Ex-DyCM

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 7: Describing the growing intolerance in country and State a stumbling block in the development of the country, former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Tara Chand today cautioned people against nefarious designs of PDP-BJP Government in the State.
Addressing a meeting of party workers at Khour today, the Ex-DyCM  said efforts should be made by the BJP- led NDA Government at the Centre and PDP-BJP Government in State to restore communal harmony and ensure safety of all the communities.
“Rising prices of essential commodities including pulses has become a cause of concern for the women running families as Tuar and Arhar Dal is costlier than the mutton and chicken. Do you think a normal family can afford pulses with this much price escalation of the essential commodities?” Tara Chand questioned.
He also raised question mark over the service tax imposed on the daily operations of the helicopter services to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
“Being part of coalition, if BJP that pretended to be the custodian of Jammu during elections could not speak against the Jazia imposed on the religious shrines, what people of Jammu should expect from these leaders in near future”, Tara Chand added.
He said if BJP will keep on compromising on important issues, the day is not far when they have to completely surrender to the valley based People’s Democratic Party.  He said about four years ago, paddy farmers in the rural Jammu including RS Pura, Bishnah, Kathua, Samba, Akhnoor and Khour/ Chhamb were given Rs 7000-7500 per quintal for their harvest but after PDP-BJP combine came to power, they are getting only Rs 1000-1500 per quintal owing to which the families of the farmers are in stress.
“It was Congress that passed a resolution to allot Rs 25 lakh per refugee family for their one time settlement and sent a proposal in this context to the Union Government but ever since BJP took to power in Centre and State, it has maintained a silence over issues of refugees”, Tara Chand further said.
He said in this previous NC-Congress Government proposal was also sent to the Union Government for allotting 5 Marla State land to refugees living on the borders for their safety.
