KARGIL Aug 23: Member Parliament Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal laid the foundation stone for construction of greenhouses at Agriculture farm Stara, Zanskar.
The greenhouses have been sanctioned under the Mission Organic Development lnitiative (MODI) Scheme and an amount of Rs 70 lakh has been already sanctioned in this regard.
Addressing the gathering, MP Ladakh enlightened the people about the MODI scheme under which theses poly-carbonate greenhouses will be constructed in Zanskar area to minimize the shortage of vegetables in the region during the winter months.
He further said that through the MODI scheme, numerous novel and effective measures would be taken to boost agriculture and allied sectors thereby paving way to convert agriculture into a viable, respectable and profitable occupation besides to provide the farmers with dynamic market opportunities.
The MP further said that 4 greenhouses will be constructed immediately and on the basis of success rate, more and more poly-carbonate greenhouses will be constructed in Zanskar area under the MODI Scheme.
With the establishment of these greenhouses, people of Zanskar will get fresh vegetables for all seasons, the MP added.
During the inaugural function, Director Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) Scheme Tashi Tsetan, Councilor Cha Stanzin Lakpa, Nominated Councilor Stanzin Chosgyal, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Zanskar Sonam Dorjay, BDC Chairpersons of Zanskar and Karsha blocks, Sarpanchs, Panchs, sub divisional level officers and the locals were present.
