GPF interest

Sir,
Kindly refer news item “Govt revises GPF interest rate” in DE Jan 30, 2018.
If on the one hand, the Govt has sanctioned three percent hike in DA in favour of State Govt employees and pensioners from July 2017 and that the arrears accruing thereof will be paid in cash and that recommendations of 7th Pay Commission will be applied to the State Govt employees and pensioners with effect from 1/1/2017 but with no clarity regarding the payment of arrears  to the incumbents on the other hand, as per orders of Finance Department of India, the interest rates in GP fund deposits have been slashed to the lowest ebb of 7.6% for 4th quarter of financial year i.e Jan 2018 to 31 March 2018 almost halved the rate of interest from 12% from the last 17 years. This step has dismayed and disappointed the Govt employees. The employees were contributing, to the GPF as a measure of small savings expecting a good rate of interest but now the Govt employees wishes have been dashed to the ground. The fact is well known that the Govt employees have no other means to augment their monthly salary which, in case of our State, is very low in comparison to other State employees. I am at a loss to understand why a Govt employee is made to suffer financially and is always at the receiving end. The insignificant amount of Rs 300 as medical allowance is just a cruel joke in these harsh days when as doctors fee exceeds 500 for a simple visit how can a Govt employee get himself and his dependent members of family cured with this paltry amount . So it is requested that the medical allowance may kindly be hiked up to Rs 3000 so that the employees and pensioners will be in position to get medical treatment in the least.
Yours etc…
