Govt urged to take necessary measures for safety, relief to border inhabitants

JAMMU, Jan 21: Expre-ssing serious concern over the plights of border inhabitants, different political and social organizations have urged the Government to take all possible measures for relief to the affected families and also ensure their safety.
Lashing out at both Centre and State Govts for failing to ensure safety of people living near LoC, the JKPCC president G. A. MIR today expressed deep sorrow over loss of lives including that  of Army and  BSF personnel due to unabated ceasefire violations on LoC, saying that State of J&K has been converted into battle field.
Asking  the State Govt to ensure treatment to every injured, besides adequate arrangements to be put in place for rehabilitation of the victims, he also emphasized that Centre Govt must take effective measures to put an end to ceasefire violations from across the border.
While appealing the Indo-Pak leadership to defuse the border tension, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said thousands of people on both sides of the border have fled their homes to escape the devastation caused by the mindless violence.
He said there is no alternative to both the countries but to adhere to 2003 ceasefire agreement and starting a credible dialogue for resolving all the issues.
Political leadership of both the countries should start an immediate structured and sustainable dialogue to find a solution to the problems.
National Conference leaders today visited shelling affected villages along International Border in the Jammu province and took stock of the situation. Dr Sheikh Mustaffa Kamal, accompanied by  Rattan Lal Gupta, Abdul Gani Teli, Pradeep Bali, Farooq Mughal and other local functionaries, visited  Samba sector and expressed grave concern over loss of life and damage to the property in the wake of continuous shelling from across the border during past few days. They also sought immediate ex-gratia to those who have lost their dear ones in the shelling and preliminary compensation for the damages to houses and loss of livestock.
The NC leaders also sought adequate boarding and lodging facilities for the displaced border dwellers with basics like medicare, power and drinking water. They also sought stationing of ambulances and deployment of mobile medical teams to meet the exigencies. A team of functionaries and workers of Youth National Conference, Jammu Province visited Chandu Chak village in R. S Pura along International Border and expressed solidarity with the shelling victims.
The Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) held an emergent meeting of its executive body to listen to the problems and atrocities faced by the victims of unprovoked Pakistani shelling on the border villages of Arnia, R.S Pura, Hiranagar, Akhnoor, Rajouri and Poonch sectors.  Large number of villagers along with office bearers of DSS Kathua unit, local leaders from the affected villages reached Dogra Bhawan Jammu today and narrated their pitiable conditions and miseries to the DSS president and former minister, Th Gulchain Singh Charak.
The DSS president demanded that families of the deceased persons should be paid compensation at par with terror victims, besides a Government job to one family member. Those injured should be suitably compensated between 2/5 lakh and adequate money must be paid to buy cattle to compensate the dead/ maimed animals and damaged crops, he added and also urged the Government to organize special coaching classes for the students affected by closing of schools
In a meeting of the J&K Development Forum, which was held here today under the chairmanship of Harinder Mahajan (Vicky), a serious concern was expressed over the loss suffered by people in the Pak shelling in R S Pura sub-sector and other border areas of Jammu.  Expressing grief at the loss suffered by people in the heavy Pak shelling and firing, Mahajan stressed that the Government should fulfill its commitment of providing plots of 5 marlas to each border family at safer places. He also demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation for the next of kin of those killed in the firing and Rs 10 lakh compensation for the injured.
Bahujan Samaj Party held a meeting under the chairmanship of State president Somraj Majotra and expressed grave concern over the cross border firing resulting into casualties and massive damage to property.  The meet urged upon the Government to set up camps for border migrants with necessary requirements to avoid further loss of lives and property. BSP also demanded allotment of 5 marla plots to the border inhabitants for their safety.
Former MLC and senior Congress leader Subash Gupta along with others, visited shelling affected villages and interacted with the victim families, who alleged lackadaisical attitude of the Government towards redressal of their problems. The Congress leader demanded adequate compensation to the affected families and relief camps with all facilities for their stay at safer places.
