JAMMU, Aug 3: Choudhary Nazakat Khatana, president of Gujjar Bakerwal Desh Tehreek-e-Insaaf, has appealed the Government not to disturb or displace the poor Gujjar-Bakerwal people living in different areas of Jammu since 1990.
In a press release issued here today, Khatana condemned the step of J&K Government of displacing the people who are settled at many places in Jammu. “These people belong to poor families mostly from Gujjar Bakerwal community, who were forced to leave borders and militant hit areas during 1990.
He said, these poor Gujjar-Bakerwal people belong to Forest, JDA, Revenue and Khad Tawi land. “These poor people were settled there by the Government itself and now Government is deliberately torturing to displace them from their residential lands”, he said, adding, these people are State subjects of J&K and not foreigners.
The Gujjar leader dare the Government to first shunt out those people who are non-state subjects but are illegally residing in various parts of Jammu region.
