Jammu, Mar 25: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir today informed the House that the department has popularized use of latest techniques, machinery and equipment among the farming community by organizing machinery melas and awareness programmes in every district of the state.
The Minister was replying to a question of Cong member Subash Chander Gupta in the Upper House today.
He further said that the department is providing incentives to the farmers for different activities including Farm Mechanization under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, Seed Village Programme, Support to State Extension Programme for Extension Reforms through Agriculture Technology Management Agency, Macro Management of Agriculture which includes National Watershed Development Programme for Rainfed Areas, Horticulture Mission for north-east and Himalayan State, National Food security Mission for rice/wheat and Integrated scheme for development of maize.
Mr Mir said the department has taken several steps for timely procurement of paddy on reasonable minimum support price.
He said Agriculture Department has been entrusted with making available the site and related physical infrastructure for the temporary procurement centres at different locations in Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur districts.
The Minister further said that the department ensures transportation of fruits which are highly perishable in nature through special trains from Amritsar and Jammu Tawi Rail Head on the subsidized rates to different parts of the Country. The Northern Railways is introducing Refrigerated parcel vans facility from the ensuing season for the haulage of cherry to outside markets of the Country, the minister said adding that the Department makes arrangements for air lifting of cherry from Srinagar Airport to different destinations on special discounted rates offered by Air India and other commercial airlines of India. He assured the member to take up issue of procurement of paddy with FCI.
