JAMMU, Feb 12: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today announced setting up of a committee to look into the demands for inclusion of some areas in the list of new administrative units after Opposition created chaos in the Assembly blaming the government for ignoring certain areas.
Speaking on the motion of thanks on the Governor’s joint address to the state legislature, Omar admitted that certain genuine areas might have been left out while deciding the list of new administrative units.
“To examine the demands of some genuine areas (left out in the list of new administrative units) I will set up a committee of experts,” Omar said in the Assembly.
The committee will submit its report in three months to the state Cabinet, he said.
The Assembly yesterday witnessed unruly scenes as the PDP and other opposition parties did not allow the House to function over their demand for setting up new administrative units in “ignored” areas of the state.
PDP members flung chairs and mikes while some climbed atop the table of reporting staff when pandemonium broke out in the Assembly yesterday in which a party MLA was injured during a scuffle.
PDP and BJP members today also resorted to protests over the demand and later staged walkout from the House.
Announcing the setting up of committee, Omar said, “…All the Honourable ministers felt it when we took this decision in the Cabinet that there were some genuine areas which had not being included because they may have not fallen within the norms of first committee or it did not come to the notice of Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) headed by Deputy Chief Minister due to pressure of time.” (AGENCIES)
