NEW DELHI: The Centre is in a continuous process of bringing down imports and be self-dependent, as far as the Defence capabilities were concerned, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre said here today.
Addressing a seminar organised by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, the Minister said the Government is working towards developing the Defence equipment indigenously. On the newly-included procurement category in the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) that was Buy Indian IDDM (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured), Dr Bhamre said this would be the preferred category for procurement under DPP.
This would promote the indigenously designed products, bringing good amount of investment in defence research and development. ”The Government of India has been working on formulating a ‘Strategic Partnership’ model for creating capacity in the private industry on a long term basis,” said Dr Bhamre, speaking about the partnership with the Defence Industry.
