Govt to make concerted efforts to promote Urdu

SRINAGAR: Government today said that concerted efforts will be made to promote and preserve Urdu language across the State with special focus on Jammu region, where there is a crisis of urdu teachers.

Replying to a supplementary question, the Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar agreed that there is a crisis of Urdu teachers in Jammu region especially in Gujjar community. He said that the Government would do everything possible to reach out to the region and take some extraordinary measures to appoint Urdu teachers in the region.

The Minister said that importance of Urdu is paramount as all the official records are preserved through the medium of the language, and it should be duty of everybody to work for its promotion and propagation.

Earlier while responding to the main question of Choudhary Sukhnandan, Mr Akhtar said in Marh constituency the Government has approved Girls Higher Secondary School for its development as a Model school and has been adopted by the MLA Marh.

He informed that in 2015-16, an amount of Rs 5 lakh was provided and utilized for the development of the school as model school under State CAPEX Budget. (AGENCIES)
