Govt should talk to Governors: CM

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, June 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said if Government wants to change some of the Governors, it should directly talk to them rather than communicating them through media.
Omar while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function here said: “Unfortunately, Raj Bhavans have been pushed into political murk since long. I would have held NDA responsible, had the Governments before it not done such things. If the new Government wants to change some of the Governors, then it should talk to those Governors.”
Chief Minister said that the approach adopted by the Government neither suit to Central Government nor the Governors. “We don’t have any clarity yet if there has really been any talk with those Governors. Governors cannot be communicated through newspapers. If it is being thought that it wants to change the Governors, then it is better that someone picks up a telephone and talks to them and seeks their resignation,” he added.
Omar described the evacuation of stranded Indians from strife-torn Iraq as a “big challenge” for the Union Government. He hoped the Centre would do everything to bring them back from the Gulf nation safely.
“The first impact it has is that many of our people are working there and evacuating them safely has become a big challenge to the present Central Government. We hope that the Government does everything to get our people back from there safely,” Chief Minister said.
Omar said the situation in Iraq may impact oil prices and give rise to inflation. “Whatever is happening in Iraq, it will have an affect on us. If the oil prices rise, then the inflation will rise here,” he added.
Meanwhile, Omar today met Governor, N N Vohra here at Raj Bhavan.
During their hour long discussions, the Chief Minister briefed the Governor about various important matters relating to development, security and governance in the State.
They also discussed issues relating to the preparedness of the Shrine Board and the State Government regarding the arrangements to be made for the ensuing Shri Amarnath ji Yatra-2014, particularly keeping in view the very heavy snow falls in the preceding months.
The Governor and the Chief Minister also discussed the Election Commission of India’s likely schedule for the forthcoming election to the State Legislature and the important projects which need to be implemented during the remaining working season.
