JAMMU : The Government has constituted a committee to look into the setting up of new colleges in the State.
Minister of State for Higher Education, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today informed the State Legislative Assembly that a committee has been constituted to look into the feasibility and other parameters and accordingly devise a mechanism for the establishment of new degree colleges in uncovered areas of the State.
Replying to a query by NC member Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, the minister said that the committee has visited most of the identified places and areas and the decision with regard to opening of new colleges, including in Hazratbal constituency would be taken only after submission of report by the committee and thereafter in consultation with Planning and Finance Departments.
The minister informed that at present three degree colleges- Women College, Nawakadal and new Women’s college are functioning in the Srinagar district.
JKNPP member Harshdev Singh, Congress members- G M Saroori, Ashok Kumar, NC member Qamar Ali Akhoon, Independent member Abdul Rashid raised supplementaries on the main question and demanded setting up of degree colleges in their constituencies besides, timely completion of ongoing college infrastructure in their areas.
