Govt sends proposal on ex-gratia

Srinagar Oct 10: Government today said that it has sent a proposal to Centre for enhancement of ex-gratia relief and compensation to the victims of the law and order, militancy and cross border firing in the State.
In a written reply to a question of BJP MLA, Dr Krishan Lal, Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation said that they have sent a proposal for enhancing the ex-gratia, relief and compensation for approval to the Government of India.
The Government has proposed the category wise enhancement of exgratia, relief and compensation to the victims of law and order disturbances, militancy related incidents, firing from across the Line of Control and International Border.
The reply reads that incidents of the border firing have increased in the recent years and border people face immense problems and have to move to temporary shelters during firing.
However, the affected people demand allotment of permanent shelters at places away from the shelling area and Cabinet has taken a decision and directed the Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation department to submit a comprehensive proposal to the Cabinet for providing 5 marlas of land per family in relatively safer areas adjacent to their present villages.
The reply reads that the information pertaining to the people living along the LoC and border between 0-5 km and number of affected families is being compiled by the Divisional Commissioner.
The reply says that Rs one lakh has been paid to persons killed in border, LoC firing, Rs 75, 000 for permanent disability and Rs 5000 for injury cases.
