Established in 1959, about 60 years ago as Govt Primary School at village Jugal in Mendhar, district Poonch, this school was upgraded to Middle standard in 1988. Out of the total 12 room, 10 have been declared as unsafe. The roll in the school is decreasing gradually as people do not want to send their children in the unsafe school.
A teacher of the school told that villagers of the area approached Chief Education Officer, Poonch, DyCEO, SDM Mendhar and even the local MLA but no repair work was initiated till date. He said many officers including CEO and SDM visited this school but no body bothered. During rains, the school is often closed. He said there is demand of the people of the area to upgrade this old school to the High School level.
A girl student of class 7th of this school said that their study gets affected when the school is closed after rains. The windows of many rooms are broken and water comes down from the roof top in case of rain. She said the children get afraid while sitting inside when there is rain or thunder storm. She urged upon the Governor on behalf of school children to intervene and provide them relief.
