Govt sanctions 220 seats of ISM Pharmacist in GNM/AMT/ANMT Schools

Shortage of qualified AYUSH paramedics in J&K

JAMMU, Nov 11: To meet the shortage of qualified AYUSH paramedical staff in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the UT Government has decided to start ISM (AYUSH) Pharmacist Training Course in Government GNM/AMT/ANMT Schools across the length and breadth of the UT and sanctioned 220 seats of AYUSH Paramedics for these schools.
“Vide its Order Number 848 of 2020 Dated 10-11-2020, the Health & Medical Education Department, sanctioned NOC in favour of president J&K Para-Medical Council for starting ISM (AYUSH) Pharmacist Training Course in Government GNM/AMT/ANMT Schools of all the districts in the UT of J&K,” a spokesperson of H&ME said.
He said that the intake capacity of 20 students each has been sanctioned for Government AMT School Jammu/Srinagar, besides 10 students each for GNM/AMT/ANMT schools in all other districts in the first phase.
The spokesperson said that the starting of AYUSH Pharmacist Training Course in AMT/ANMTs/JNM was planned by Atal Dulloo, Financial Commissioner, Health & Medical Education, who is taking personal interest for development of AYUSH sector in J&K. He said on his instructions a comprehensive proposal was submitted by Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine to the J&K Para Medical Council for initiating the process of starting AYUSH Pharmacist Training course in GNM/AMT/ANMT schools of J&K on the prescribed format issued by J&K Para Medical Council.
“The AYUSH units functioning in District Hospitals have been associated with concerned AMT/ANMTs/GNMs of districts and Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu and Government Unani Hospital Shalteng (Srinagar) with concerned AMTs of GMC Jammu/Srinagar for training purpose in AYUSH subjects. Regarding the training in the subjects concerned with modern system of medicine the same will be taken by respective GNMs/AMTs/ANMTs and its associated hospitals,” he added.
Dr Mohan Singh, Director Indian Systems of Medicine, J&K, informed that the AYUSH teaching faculty for these courses has already been identified in each and every district and the same has been furnished to J&K, Para Medical Council. He said that the Government training facility for AYUSH Pharmacist training course was a long pending demand of the people of J&K as there was no such facility in Government sector in the UT of J&K.
He further added that the demand of AYUSH treatment is increasing magnanimously and infrastructure of AYUSH systems is being upgraded regularly in J&K with 50 bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospitals being established in all districts in the UT of J&K at secondary level (currently four 50 bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospitals are being established at Kupwara, Kulgam, Kishtwar and Kathua) while three more at Bandipora, Kulgam and Samba are in pipeline).
“Moreover, at tertiary level two Hospitals Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu and Government Unani Hospital Shalteng have been upgraded recently and two associated hospitals of Government Ayurvedic Medical College Jammu and Government Unani Medical College, Kashmir are being made operational. Besides, all ISM Dispensaries are being upgraded to AYUSH Health & Wellness centres in a phased manner,” Dr Singh added.
