JAMMU, Oct 18: Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC), which had been lying defunct for last about five months, has been reconstituted by the UT Government and a formal order in this connection will be issued within a few days.
Official sources told Excelsior that the proposal for reconstitution of the J&K Medical Council has been approved by the Government and now, it has been sent to Law Department for its consent. After Law Department’s approval, a formal order regarding re-constitution of the Medical Council will be issued. The whole process will take at most 3-4 days, sources added.
Earlier this evening, J&K HME Department also said on its twitter handle: “Dussehra and Eid milad un Nabi gift to the Medical Fraternity. J&K State Medical Council reconstituted. Orders being issued soon.”
Pertinent to mention here that J&K Medical Council has the mandate to register medical professionals, issue certificates of registration, vet the qualifications and degrees, promote and certify continuous medical education, verify credentials claimed by professionals and issue certificates of Good Standing to the serving doctors.
However, since April this year, medical professionals including new MBBS pass-outs have been facing difficulties in getting mandatory certification in the absence of the Medical Council. Neither they can apply for Government jobs and higher qualification, nor can they do private practice in the Union Territory without certification of their degrees by the Council. This was exclusively highlighted by EXCELSIOR in its today’s edition, prompting the authorities to accelerate the process of reconstitution of the Council.
