KATHUA, Dec 15: West Pakistan refugees leader Labha Ram Gandhi today alleged that State Government was playing politics with West Pak refugees.
Addressing a large rally at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, Kathua today, Gandhi welcomed the package worth Rs 2000 crore announced by the Prime Minister for refugees but maintained that their many other issues have been ignored. The West Pak refugee leader said that the announcement of compensation to all refugee families is welcome step taken by Narendra Modi Govt but the demand of permanent resident rights to them is still continued. No decision has been taken so far in this regard by the Government. He said that their protest would be continued till the fulfillment of demands.
Gandhi demanded the permanent residents status for their children so that they can get the democratic voting rights and jobs in Govt sector as well. He alleged that the past Governments did not pay attention towards the problems of refugees and the WP refugees faced numbers of problem in the past.
Labha Ram alleged that the Muslim dominance Govt has pay attention only towards Muslim community and west Pakistani refugee or other Hindu refugee are widely ignored for their genuine rights. It is unfortunate that Govt has policy for settlement of refugees of Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh and compensation for top militants Bhurhan Wani family but no attention towards the Indian refugees left their homes during the 1965, 1971 and 1947 wars with Paksitan.
Even the fourteen amendments have been made in the Constitution of J&K but no amendment made for West Pakistani refugees so far in the J&K Constitution by Kashmiri rulers. It is hoped that the present Govt would solve genuine issues of the West Pak refugees and provide them PRCs. Even the top BJP leaders have promised permanent resident status to them. ” We have also legal rights to get the permanent resident status as sign by J&K Govt in International law to have residents right who have birth and five years stay in the state as followed by other states of the country. But J&K Govt is playing politics with the West Pak refugees,” Gandhi added.
