Govt playing politics over flood victims: Congress

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 9: Accusing the Coalition Government of playing politics over providing relief to flood victims of J&K, Congress today said BJP-PDP parties promised the sky but did not follow it up with action.
Congress Organising and media secretary Salman Nizami today while seeking an explanation of sorts on unutilized funds for flood relief, has asked the Chief Minister to explain why he and his Finance Minister rushed to Delhi with a begging bowl to seek a grant of more funds from the Centre when out of Rs 570 crore, Rs 440 crore has remained unutilized.
He has told PDP and BJP leadership that since their Government has failed to provide timely relief to thousands of flood-affected families, the Congress would like to know why the Government delayed to identify and distribute the funds among those families, whose houses were partially, severely or fully damaged in September 2014 floods.
Nizami said there is an urgent need to explain the issue threadbare to plug leaks in the administrative setup.
He demanded a white paper from the Government on the present status of the funds that have been made available to district administrations, irrigation department and status of the rehabilitation process of affected families.
