NEW DELHI, June 12:
NSCN(K), responsible for the killing of 18 Army men in Manipur, will soon be declared a banned organisation again.
The Home Ministry has prepared a note for the Union Cabinet for declaring the SS Khaplang-led Naga rebel group as outlawed in the wake of the June 4 strike and recent series of attacks on security forces by it.
After the Union Cabinet’s approval, the NSCN-K will be declared a banned group and its name will be put in the list of organisations which are declared as banned under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
NSCN-K was a banned organisation till 2001 but it was withdrawn after the group entered into a ceasefire agreement with the government. Khaplang, a Naga from Myanmar, is based in the neighbouring country and most camps of the group are believed to be located there. Following the killing of the 18 Army soldiers, commandos of Special Forces carried out a strike in the militant camps deep inside Myanmar. (PTI)
