JAMMU, Jan 15: Jammu Kashmir Government Pharmacist Association (JKGPA), Jammu held a peaceful protest demonstration in front of Press Club Jammu to press the Union Territory Government to start registration of left over pharmacists under Central Pharmacy Act 1948.
A large number of Government pharmacists participated in the protest and raised slogans in support of their demands while carrying placards in their hands.
Addressing the protesting pharmacists, president JKGPA Sushil Sudan said that the Association is striving hard to fight the Government to get the pharmacists registered in JK Pharmacy Council under Section 32-C of new Central Pharmacy Act. He appealed the UT Government to resolve the issue and start the registration of pharmacists at the earliest.
He said that even after three months since the J&K Pharmacy Council submitted a proposal for seeking an amendment in Section 32-C of the Pharmacy Act 1948 entitling the leftover pharmacists to obtain registration under the Central Pharmacy Act 1948, there has been no response from administrative department till date and it is sitting over the proposal for registration by JK Pharmacy Council.

“We didn’t want to adopt the path of agitation but was compelled by the Government. Before adopting the path of agitation, we highlighted our genuine demands of registration by the democratic way and approached every corner but nobody paid heed to their demands,” the JKGPA president said.
Ch Jarnail Singh, Kamal Jit Sawhney, Bharat Bhushan Bhagat, Yougal Bakshi, Shaffket Hussain, Mela Singh and many others addressed the protesting pharmacists.
Meanwhile, district unit of JKGPA led by president JKMEF held 2-hour-long peaceful dharna and protest demonstration in front of the Chief Medical Office Udhampur to raise demand of registration of in service pharmacists and trainee pharmacists under Central Pharmacy Act 1948.
They also highlighted other demands including pay grades at par with other UT’s/States, running pay grades as applicable to medical officers viz. 10, 15, 20 years of service instead irregular DPC, creation of posts of Block Pharmacy Officer and District Pharmacy Officer and filling of all vacant posts of pharmacists in the UT.
Likewise, JKGPA Reasi unit staged a peaceful protest in the premises of District Hospital Reasi under the chairmanship of its president Krishan Lal. A large number of inservice pharmacists participated in the protest and urged the Government to start the process of registration of left over pharmacists under the new Pharmacy Act.
