Govt paying focused attention to strengthen road sector: Lal Singh

KATHUA: Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Choudhary Lal Singh today said that government is paying focused attention to develop durable infrastructure in road sector and moving rapidly to upgrade various vital existing roads and developing new projects to connect maximum habitations with fair weather link.

During his visit to Basohli area, where he inspected various on-going road projects, Ch. Lal Singh maintained that road connectivity is key to the socio-economic development of people and present Government will not leave any stone unturned to strengthen the road network in the State and in Kathua district in particular. He said there is no dearth of funds and Central Government has granted adequate funding particularly for strengthening the road sector in Jammu and Kashmir. He observed that the agencies responsible for execution of these road projects will make their sincere efforts to make judicious use of Central funds to achieve the objective of holistic development. He called upon the engineers to lay special focus on quality works by observing all existing norms and specifications so that these public assets last long and serve their purposes.

The roads which were inspected included, 8 km stretch from Dhanore-Choi-Hatli, Nangali-Dheota road and directed the concerned agencies to complete these projects in a time bound manner.

Later, the minister also held a public meeting at PWD Rest House and listened to the problems and demands of the people.   The problem which was projected by the people mainly related to augmentation of drinking water supply, power supply and ration and he assured to address these genuine demands on priority.

SDM Basohli, XEN REW, AEE, BDO and other sectoral officers accompanied the minister during the visit.
