Govt officials among 6 held for forgery

Srinagar, Jan 10: Six persons including two officials of the Deputy Commissioner’s office were arrested for forging the signatures of the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag.
Police arrested Mukhtar Abass Khan, Litigation officer and Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, a Class 4th employee, in Deputy Commissioner Anantnag’s office and registered a case (FIR 2/19 under Section 467, 420 RPC).
During investigations names of four more people surfaced in the case and they have been arrested.
Sources said that Khan along with others were involved in forgery of the signatures of DC Anantnag. The files were sent to the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Srinagar for approval.
However, Divisional Commissioner after smelling the rat sought presence of the DC Anantnag and the later denied having sent these files to former’s office for approval. The DC later informed the SSP Anantnag and arrested two officials and four private persons.
These files were pertaining to appointment of family members of 15 persons whose 80-90 percent land had been shown acquired by the Railways.
