202 test +ve including 164 in Leh

LEH, May 19: A Government official and two women were among five persons who died of COVID-19 in the Union Territory of Ladakh today while 202 persons tested positive for the virus, the maximum cases, as usual, being reported from Leh district.
Out of five Corona casualties in Ladakh, four were reported from Leh district and one from Kargil.
A 43-year-old Government official Mohammad Akbar, posted in the office of Education Department died of COVID-19 in Leh today. Hailing from Skampari Leh, he was admitted in the hospital since May 8.
Principal Secretary Education Department Dr Pawan Kotwal and other officials of the Education Department have condoled the death of the official due to Coronavirus.

An 87-year-old woman from Ney and 53-year-old man from Domkar in Leh also succumbed to the virus in Leh. One more death was reported from Leh while another COVID death was recorded in Kargil district where an old man hailing from village Silmo Lakha died.
This is for the first time since COVID pandemic broke out that the Union Territory of Ladakh has reported five casualties in a single day.
Several migrant workers from Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Nepal etc who had come to work in Leh, have died of Coronavirus in Leh district apart from the local casualties.
Five deaths today took Corona toll in Ladakh to 170 including 123 in Leh and 47 in Kargil district.
Meanwhile, 202 more persons today tested positive for the virus in Ladakh.
Among them, 164 fresh positive cases were reported in Leh district and 38 in Kargil.
New cases have taken Corona count in Ladakh to 16784. Of them, 1583 are active positives while 15031 have recovered from the virus.
Out of a total of 1583 active positive cases in the Union Territory, 1300 are in Leh and 283 in Kargil.
Among total cases of 16784, 13810 were in Leh and 2974 in Kargil. The recoveries include 12387 in Leh and 2644 in Kargil.
Out of a total of 1583 active positive cases, 123 persons are admitted in COVID Hospitals including 106 in Leh and 17 in Kargil while 866 are in home isolation (613 in Leh and 253 in Kargil) while 509 were in COVID Care Centres, all in Leh.
Eighty five persons were in Facility Isolation—72 in Leh and 13 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, lockdown continued in the Union Territory of Ladakh, However, shops dealing with essential commodities have been allowed to open for some hours fixed by the District Magistrates of Leh and Kargil.
