JAMMU, Aug 26: J&K Kissan Council today flayed Government for not showing concern towards farmers and their damaged crops due to recent hailstorm.
Tajinder Singh, president, J&K Kissan Council said that due to continuous rain all the crops like cereals, vegetables and flowers have heavily been damaged and farmers are in heavy loss.
He said that recent heavy rains proved detrimental for present rabi season as well as coming kharief season seedling of vegetables and flowers, adding that the standing vegetable crops are also 80 per cent damaged in entire Jammu region, the fact is that such type of natural calamities can be compensated by adopting the method of weather based agriculture insurance like in Haryana, Punjab and Gujarat.
Every year there is rumors that farmers get a benefit of insurance but Agri insurance companies are least bothered about the condition of farmers, he said, adding that different types of anti farmers rules are applied which are not in the interest of farmers.
Singh asked the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to give special attention towards non seriousness of agencies involved in providing insurance to farming community and crop.
