Govt: no bank holiday for six days; bank ops to continue uninterrupted

NEW DELHI, Aug 31: The Government on Friday cleared the air on a message doing rounds on social media that banks would be closed for six days in first week of September.
The Finance Ministry said in a statement that banks would remain open and banking activities continue unimpeded during that period.
The banks would be closed only for two days — September 2 (Sunday) and September 8 on account of second Saturday.
It said September 3 ? Janmashtami ? is not a pan India holiday and banks only in some states where a holiday is declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 will remain closed.
“It is hereby clarified that banks will remain open and banking activity will continue unimpeded in the first week of September,” the statement read.
Even on those days, ATMs in all the states will be fully functional and there will be no impact on online banking transactions. Banks have been advised to ensure that sufficient cash is available for dispensation from ATMs. Banks will remain open on all other days. (UNI)
