Govt indifferent towards Chenab Valley: Wani

DODA, Apr 1: Abdul Majid Wani, PCC general secretary and former PWD Minister, today, criticized the indifferent approach adopted by the State Government towards miseries of people of Chenab Valley region caused due to recent incessant rainfall. The recent rainfalls have caused devastation in the whole area. People living in Marmat and Dessa belts of Doda district are totally cut off because of landslides and washed away road links. Poor people are finding it difficult to shift seriously ill patients & pregnant ladies the district hospital. There is total collapse of the civil administration in Doda district with no substantial help or assistance being provided to poor villagers living in far away hilly areas.
Majid Wani further said that the Government should not forget that Doda district. In fact, whole Chenab Valley region is an important part of the State and people living in these backward & hilly areas have same rights as people living in other regions of the State, he added.
Criticizing the Government for its biased approach and whole focus towards the Kashmir Valley, Wani appealed the Chief Minister Mufti Mohd. Sayeed to immediately depute teams of its Ministers and top officers to Doda district and other hilly regions like Ramban, Kishtwar, Poonch and Rajouri to take stock of the situation and make assessment of losses occurred to people due to the recent rainfalls.
Wani, also, exhorted Doda district administration to gear up its official machinery and provide all types of assistance/ relief to the affected people, especially living in far off hilly areas in Marmat, Dessa, Thathri and Gandoh.
