JAMMU, Mar 19: Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah today moved a Bill in the Legislative Assembly to increase the daily allowance of the Members of the State Legislature.
While introducing the Bill, the Minister said that salary and allowances of the Ministers and Members of the State Legislature were enhanced under the J&K Members’, Ministers’ and Deputy Ministers’ Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Act, 2011. However, the daily allowance of the Members was not increased at that time.
The Members of State Legislature had raised the demand for increase of daily allowance as it was last revised in the year 2006, the Minister said, adding the Government considered the demand and decided to increase the daily allowance from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 as such the Bill seeks to attain the objective.
The enhancement will have additional expenditure to the tune of Rs 25 lakh per annum approximately.
