KATHUA, Mar 14: BJP candidate for Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha Constituency, Dr Jitendra Singh today accused the State Government of its total failure in developing Kathua district as an industrial hub despite having proximity to neighbouring Punjab.
Addressing over eight road-shows along peripheral villages of Kharote, Karduh, Jandhor, Kote, Hatli and Chhanni in district Kathua up to the last Panchayat of Keeriyan Gandyal on J&K-Punjab border and an impressive public rally at Lakhanpur, here today he that due of its easy approachability and close proximity to Punjab, Kathua should have attracted much more industrial growth and investment which is lacking because of intimidatory and obstructionist policy of the Government as well as the Article 370.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, while the people were yearning for a change and the country was ready for the same, it is now for the political class to rise up to this popular expectation. He said, Narendra Modi’s anointment had inspired a new hope across the country but unfortunately, by the time the Congress led UPA quits the Government in New Delhi, things would have gone from bad to worse.
Dr Jitendra Singh alleged that instead of sympathetically addressing the problems of border area people, the Congress supported NC- led Government was pressing for partial revocation of AFSPA from certain districts including Kathua in order to appease the separatist constituency.
Referring to long standing local problems of district Kathua, Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is ironic that even after 66 years of independence, “Kandi” area related water scarcity, injudicious water drainage, development of rural roads, poor connectivity to peripheral villages like Keeriyan and other such issues remain unresolved. The unemployment rate has gone up during past five years of coalition rule even as the government is keen to bring back and provide employment to the youth who had crossed over to Pakistan for militancy training, he added.
MLA Basohli, Jagdish Sapolia also addressed the rally and extended his full support to Narendra Modi as PM and Dr Jitendra Singh as MP.
