Govt forms committee to inspect poultry dressing units

JAMMU, Feb 27: The State Government has constituted a committee to inspect the functioning of poultry dressing units and menace of import of unhygienic dressed poultry meat into the State.
The committee, headed by Commissioner, Food Safety, J&K, shall randomly inspect the facilities/infrastructure of poultry dressing units in the State and verify processing capacity and mode of disposal of final product of poultry dressing units.
The committee shall interact with poultry farmers of the State and shall verify the allegations that poultry dressing unit holders are selling live birds in the market after exemption of tax. It shall collect details of dressed poultry meat imported into the State and check hygiene of imported dressed poultry meat, mode of transportation and hygiene of retail outlets, maintenance of cold chain, etc.
Director Animal Husbandry Jammu/Kashmir, director Industries and Commerce Jammu/Kashmir, Joint director Poultry project, Hariparbath, Srinagar, Head of Department of Public Health & Hygiene, SKUAST Jammu/Srinagar, Deputy director, Poultry Jammu and Dr Altaf Gilani, Assistant Director, Poultry Athwajan shall be Members of this committee.
