JAMMU, Nov 16: Former Minister and senior National Conference (NC) leader today said it is unfortunate that even after 22 days of crop loss due to heavy rains and hailstorm, Government has failed to provide compensation to the farmers.
“It has exposed BJP Government’s anti-farmer mindset and insensitivity towards problems of farmers,” Sadhotra said while addressing one-day convention of delegates and prominent workers of the Mandal Block at Sum, which was held under the chairmanship of Pt Pardeep Sharma (local senior leader).
Sadhotra said it has come to his notice that Government is going to compensate the farmers at the rate of Rs 600 per Kanal. He said if it is done, it will be cruel joke with the farmers. The NC leader said keeping in view huge loss and higher cost of farming, farmers should be given compensation at the rate of at least Rs 1800 per Kanal so that they can cultivate next wheat crop also.
The former Minister said that at this time of crisis Government should come to the rescue of the farmers and give sense of belonging to them by giving them Rs 1800 per Kanal compensation which is less than real cost of cultivation of paddy. He asked the farmers to unite and fight for their genuine cause and National Conference as usual is committed to stand by them.
On the occasion, newly appointed Rural president of the party assured the leadership and the party colleagues that he shall work hard to strengthen the hands of the Party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah. Subedar Kartar Chand, Pawan Singh and Mohinder Pal of Makwal and Makwal Camp joined the party on the occasion.
