Govt extends internet curbs till Feb 15

JAMMU, Feb 7: The Government today extended till February 15 the restrictions imposed on social media on 2G mobile network across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
While restoring 2G mobile internet services in Jammu and Kashmir, the Home Department had stated that only white-listed sites will be accessed through the mobile internet while social media networking sites were barred.
Today’s order issued by Principal Secretary Home Shaleen Kabra stated that previous restrictions were reviewed after a week and overall security situation was taken into account while extending restrictions for another week till February 15, unless modified earlier.
The Home Department order cited use of internet for terror activities including the incidents at Ban Toll Plaza in Nagrota, Partap Park in Srinagar and use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) despite measures taken by the Telecom Service Providers.
