Govt employees stage protest demonstration

Govt employees staging protest dharna outside Divisional Commissioner's office at Jammu on Wednesday. -Excelsior/ Rakesh

JAMMU/SRINAGAR Oct 10: Employees from various Government Departments and Public  Sector Undertakings (PSUs) held protest demonstration outside the office of Divisional Commissioner Rail Head complex, Jammu and at various other district headquarters across the State.
On the call given by JCC leadership, a large number of Government employees assembled at Panama Chowk in the morning and then in the shape of a rally, they moved towards the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Pardeeep Gupta. Led by senior leaders Mohd Gafoor Dar, Kulwant Singh, Ganesh Khajuria and others, the employees held massive protest demonstration against the Government and shouted slogans in support of their demands. Some of them were also carrying banners and placards.
It was followed by a day long dharna of the employees outside Divisional Commissioner’s office. Several trade union leaders addressed the employees’ gathering. They strongly criticized the Omar Government for its failure to honour its commitment and address the pending agreed issues of the employees. They demanded release of Pay Commission arrears, regularization of ad hoc, daily rated, contractual and consolidated workers, framing of policy for these employees, enhancement of retirement age, removal of pay anomalies and providing pay commission benefit to the PSU employees.
In Srinagar, the employees under the leadership of  senior JCC members  Abdul Qayoom Wani, Khursheed Alam and  Fayaz Shabnam assembled at CAPD office complex and then took out a protest march towards Deputy Commissioner’s office. After staging protest there, a delegation of employees submitted a memorandum to the DC for the State Chief Minister, projecting employees’ demands.
Similar protests were held at Ananatnag, Baramulla, Pulwama, Leh and other districts of  Kashmir region. The employees warned to intensify their struggle in near future if Government failed to take decision on the agreed demands.
At Udhampur, the employees under the leadership of Rajesh Sharma (JKTF) and others held protest demonstration outside the DC office Udhampur. They raised slogans in support of their demands and later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
At Samba district headquarters, similar protest demonstration was held under the leadership of  trade unionist Satish Dutta. The employees after staging protest demonstration for over two hours submitted memorandum to the DC Samba projecting employees demands.
At district headquarters, Kathua, the employees under the banner of JCC assembled at DC office complex and sat on day long dharna. They staged protest under the leadership of Kuldip Singh and shouted slogans in support of their demands. Similar protests were held at Rajouri, Doda, Poonch, Reasi, Ramban and Kishtwar.
It is pertinent to mention here that JCC leadership has given Civil Secretariat `Gherao’ programme on October 15. A large number of employees from all the districts will assemble in Srinagar and move towards Civil Secretariat for ‘Gherao’.
