Govt counters Manmohan’s criticism

NEW DELHI, Sept 3:
The Government on Tuesday strongly countered allegation from former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh that country’s economy is facing crisis due to ‘man made blunders’ and said instead the Narendra Modi regime has able to perform as a “people friendly Government”.
“We do not subscribe to what he (Dr Singh) said. We have a comprehensive review of the economy. We are doing this being a responsive Government…..That is the way how a people friendly Government works,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters here.
Answering questions on Dr Singh’s remarks and the drop in GDP in recent times, the Minister said at a post-cabinet meeting briefing that: “Let us understand that the government is not looking into economy in piece meal manners. We have a comprehensive review of the economy. We are doing this being a responsive Government.
He further said: “We are addressing the issues and we have seen this in the GST also. The GST Council met every month and took relevant decisions and it is now fine tuned. That is the way how a people friendly government works.”
“We are not only walking the talk…we are bringing the economy from a stage when it was the 11th economy in the world. Now it is fifth and we are marching towards third,” Mr Javadekar said.
The Minister asserted: “We are very sure, our economy will show the performance as expected”.
On Sunday, in a video statement, former PM Dr Singh had said: “The last quarter’s GDP growth rate of five percent signals that we are in the midst of a prolonged slowdown. India has the potential to grow at a much faster rate but all round mismanagement by the Modi government has resulted in this slowdown”.
To a question on completion of one month (by September 4-5) since the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Javadekar said – “Everyday the Union Home Ministry and the Jammu and Kashmir administration is giving latest details”.
“You know that, beyond very few police stations, now there is no imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC. And there is no bullet fired, no tear gas shells and no casualty….That’s very important and that is the one month story”. (UNI)
