JAMMU, Apr 3: The State Government has constituted a governing body and task force for setting up biotechnology parks at Srinagar and Jammu.
The biotech parks are set up to utilize the medicinal plants, photo pharmaceutical, pharma bio-resources and aromatic plant bio resources available in the State.
Headed by Secretary DBT, Government of India as the chairman, the 16-member governing body will comprise chairman SAC-CM, Principal Secretary to CM, Director IIIM (CSIR), Administrative Secretary Science and Technology Department, Administrative Secretary Industries and Commerce Department, CEO SIDCO, CEO J&K Bank, Director IMTECH (CSIR), Chandigrah, Advisor/JS and FA of DBT (GoI), nominee of Secretary , DST (GoI), one expert each on Biotech Industry and Essential Oil Industry, Dr P K Seth, CEO Biotech Park Lucknow, CEO National Medicinal Plants Board and CEO Biotech Park.
The seven-member Task Force comprises of Prof V L Chopra (Chairman SAC-CM), Principal Secretary to CM, Dr Ram Vishwakarma (IIIM), Dr R K Raina, (IIIM), Administrative Secretary Science and Technology, CEO SIDCO and CEO J&K Bank or his nominee.
To objective of governing body and task force is to create core technology infrastructure to enable setting up of new industry in the State based on unique biodiversity (medicinal and aromatic plants), protein therapeutics, vaccines and fermentation products to incentives and support.
To promote biotechnology and industrial ventures in Jammu Kashmir, the task force will train the entrepreneurs in HRD, marketing, technology transfer etc.
