JAMMU, Jan 25: To regulate the smooth functioning of traffic and tackling the issues of decongestion, encroachment, traffic signals and violations of traffic rules, the State Government has accorded sanction to the constitution of Division Level Committees.
Headed by the concerned Divisional Commissioner as the Chairman, the divisional level committees comprise DIG Traffic Jammu/Kashmir, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu/Srinagar, Vice Chairman Jammu/Srinagar Development Authority, Director Local Bodies Jammu/Kashmir, Chief Engineer PW (R&B) Department, Jammu/Kashmir, SSP Traffic (City), Jammu/Srinagar, RTO Jammu/Kashmir and Additional Superintendent of Police (Hqrs), concerned division.
The committee shall suggest execution of the tasks of important nature, such as repair of potholes, footpaths, realignment of poles, redesigning of rotaries, relocation of dustbins, removal of encroachments, development and maintenance of bus stops, bus bays, new works of minor nature, ensuring digging of roads in a coordinated manner for immediate repair.
The committee shall also help in improvement of street lights, development and maintenance of parking places, especially in colonies, markets etc, taking action against encroachments, development of Sumo/Auto Stands, utilization of alternate roads and routes, designing of one way roads, and restriction on right turns, safety measures such as crash barriers, parapet walls, re-designing of blind turns, dangerous curves, retaining walls etc.
Besides, the committee shall hold meeting with other stakeholder for smooth transport system and seek report of violation from the concerned RTO/ARTOs/Traffic, Police.
The jurisdiction of the committee shall be urban as well as rural areas of both the divisions.
