JAMMU, May 27: The Government has constituted a three member committee under the chairmanship of Advocate General for expediting disposal of litigations pending before the High Court and other Tribunals/Benches.
The other members of the committee are Secretary, General Administration Department and Secretary, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Pursuant to the Government order issued in this regard, D. C. Raina, Advocate General held a meeting through video conference from Jammu with the officers of Kashmir Division belonging to Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Manoj Kumar Pandit, Special Secretary, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs attended the meeting here while Special Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, Deputy Legal Remembrancer /Senior Law Officers/Public Law Officers and the Legal Assistants posted in different departments presently at Srinagar participated through video conference.
All the Law Officers were directed to compile the information of court cases within three days and forward the same to the office of the Advocate General and Secretary, Department of Law, justice and Parliamentary Affairs. The details of the cases which have become in fructuous and the cases worth to be contested on its merits have also been sought from the concerned officers.
Besides, two nodal officers one from Jammu Division and other from Kashmir Division will be assigned the job of consolidation of the requisite information. These nodal officers will remain in touch with the Government as well as the Law Officers.
The Advocate General stressed upon the officers to file replies/statement of facts and letter patent appeals with promptitude, so as to avoid frequent personal appearance of Administrative Secretaries. He asked the officers to flag the important cases and ensure that they are attended to with priority and try to get them disposed off in a time bound manner. He made it clear to the officers present in the meeting that there is a need to change the age old system and the performance of the law officers viz-a-viz disposal of the cases will be taken note of.
The working of the Law Officers will be reviewed at different levels and those who will perform their duties promptly and in time bound manner will be rewarded, he added.
Meanwhile, the officers posted in different departments gave some suggestions which were taken note of during the interaction session.
