Govt committed to improve education scenario: DyCM

JAMMU, Apr 17: Underlining commitment of the Government to improve education scenario in the State, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that in order to fine tune the department according to modern day education requirements work on drafting a new education policy is underway and very soon the State will have a futuristic policy in place.
He said the Government has already framed the State Education Advisory Board for the purpose of formulating education policy and administration.
“The board besides Chairman will have 5 ex-officio members and 6 non-officio members who would be eminent educationists of the State and would give suggestions on formulating an education policy keeping in view the requirements and topographical constrains,” he added.
Tara Chand was addressing one day educational convention at Khour, today.
Secretary, School Education Hirdesh Kumar, Director, School Education, Jammu P.K. Pole, Director, RMSA Hilal A. Parray, Director SSA R.K. Verma, CEO,Jammu, SDM, Akhnoor and other functionaries of the Education Department participated in the convention.
Stressing on keeping a tab on private school fee structure,  Tara Chand said that the Government as per the directions of Supreme Court has framed a committee headed by retired Chief Justice for fixation of fee structure of private educational institutes in the State, adding that the committee would fix the fees so as to prevent profiteering, payment of capitation or unjustified charging of fee in any other manner.
He said no stone would be left unturned to ensure that standard of education in Government schools gets improved and quality education is provided to all the students.
Underlining achievements of the department, the Deputy Chief Minister said that in short span over 10,000 promotions have been made, more than 5,000 lecturers have been regularized and around 13,000 vacancies have been referred to concerned recruitment agencies, adding that instructions have been given to SSB and PSC for ensuring fast track recruitment.
“All these steps have been taken in order to ensure that morale of teaching fraternity gets a boost and they rededicate themselves towards their professional commitments,” he added.
Tara Chand said very soon a comprehensive transfer policy would be framed for rationalizing transfers in the department. He said four zones would be created as per the topography of the area and all those who get promoted would have to compulsorily serve for one year in the tough zone.
Those suffering from life consuming diseases and over 55 years of age would be suitably adjusted as per the policy and female staff would get postings in those schools which have proper road connectivity, he added.
He said those who have given more than required period of service in remote and tough areas would be immediately called back and mechanism for automatic transfer after completing tenure would also be put in place.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that all out efforts have been initiated to ensure that the Government schools give best results and lost glory of the schools is won back, adding that teaching fraternity in the schools is highly qualified and are better paid with respect to private teachers, so it is duty of the teachers to ensure that students of Government schools excel well vis-à-vis those studying in private academies.
He said model schools would be developed with all modern facilities for the students and would have teachers and infrastructure at par with those of private institutes.
