JAMMU, Aug 31: The Vice chairman J&K State Advisory Board for the Development of Kissans , Daljit Singh Chib today said that the Government is committed to improve the economic condition of farmers of the State and in this direction required steps are being taken.
He was speaking at a function organized by the Agriculture Department here, under Krishi Vichar Manthan programme. Chib, who presided over the programme said the feedback and suggestions of the farmers received during the programme will provide a sound base for defining the roadmap for developing future plans and arrangements of agriculture inputs for the coming Rabi season.
He also asked the farmers to adopt the integrated farming and modernize the agriculture with the use of latest technology to double the farmers income by 2022.
He advised the farmers to organize themselves the farmers Self Help Groups (SHGs), farmers clubs and Farmers Producers Organizations (FPO) to get convenience in arrangement of inputs and facilitation for marketing of their produce.
Chib further said farmers can improve their income by mushroom cultivation, vegetable production, growing of high value cash crops, apiculture to manage their agriculture units on entrepreneurial lines.
Director Agriculture Jammu, H K Razdan in reply to various queries of the farmers said that the impact of various technological interventions, varietal trials, use of latest machinery, application of balanced dose of fertilizers, timely sowing and inter -culture operations has been observed in the current maize and paddy crops.
He said the Krishi Vichar Manthan programme has been organized to get first hand knowledge of the various difficulties and problems and steps to be taken how to tackle them. Ex Director Agriculture and Member Kissan Board D P Khajuria, president J&K Kissan Council Tejinder Singh, president R S Pura Basmati Growers Association Choudhary Dev Raj and many progressive farmers besides the other officers of Agriculture Department attended the programme.
