JAMMU, Nov 18: Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu under the aegis of Directorate of Ayush J&K celebrated 6th Naturopathy Day today.
An impressive function was organized in the Hospital premises to mark the Day. Dr Mohan Singh (Director, Ayush J&K) presided over as chief guest in the program in presence of Dr Suresh Sharma (Deputy Director Ayush), Dr Rakesh Kumar Raina (Assistant Director Ayurveda), Dr Vandana Dogra (Medical Superintendent, Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu) and Dr Aruna Bhat (Deputy Medical Superintendent, Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu).
On this day, “A nature cure food fest- Prakrit Ahara” was also organized in Dhanvantri Kunj of the Hospital, which was inaugurated by Director Ayush J&K. Students, interns and medical officers displayed stalls of various health foods and recipes based on the naturopathic dietary principles, millets and superfoods with informational brochures on the health benefits of these recipes.
Dr Mohan Singh, in his address, highlighted that Naturopathy is the traditional wisdom of India and the Gandhian Thought (Father of Indian Naturopathy) of Public Health and Wellness. He said Naturopathy is not a system of health care but a way of living without disease. This system believes in living in consonance with nature and to use natural resources for self healing, he added.
Director Ayush also emphasized upon the need for integration of Naturopathy and Nature Cure methods not only in Ayush Health Care service delivery but also in public health service delivery. Natural diets and recipes as per principles of Dietotherapy must be promoted through inter sectoral convergence with ICDS and Public health nutrition service providers especially during VHNDs and Poshan Maah, he asserted.
He also emphasized the need for strong organizations of Naturopathy and career avenues for Nature cure and Naturopathic Practitioner for which Directorate of Ayush J&K is putting best efforts.
